Thank you for your service to this great nation Spec. Akintade. It is people like you that make this nation what it is today. God bless you, and may you rest in peace.
My dearly beloved brother,
You were more than a brother to me and still is. Death may take you, but the memory lives on in me. I love you and still do. One thing I know for sure is that I will see you, our father and our loved ones at Jesus’ feet.
The Lord gives; the Lord takes! Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Just thought I’d write to say that my battalion just closed most of FOB Oryan in January 2006. My platoon stayed in the same bunker. Would like to say that as of Jan 2006 Akintade memorial was still up on the wall. If you want to see the additions to the bunkers or anything else, just mail me. Spc Garrison 101st abn div 3)320 fa
Just finished your book (an eye opening read) and was so saddened by the loss of SPC Akintade. What a pointless act by a cowardly combatant. I was amused by his choice for a last name change and am sorry that such a kind young man is no longer with us. I am thankful to each and every soldier who volunteers to protect and serve this country. SPC Akintade and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.
I have not read your book. Segun was a student in my English 101 class at New York City College of Technology in 2002. He was a full-time student and worked a full-time job in the evenings. He was alert, even-headed, among those people who amaze you with their tremendous capability to handle a great deal of work and responsibility. It was devastating to read of his death in Iraq, and to imagine the suffering of his family losing their son and brother in such circumstances.
Dearly beloved,
I’m still here, listening to the fragrance of the air muddled with thoughts of you; your courage and strength still stands the test of time. I draw from you and know that your legacy is passed on; the baton you handed over is still wet with sweat from my palms. To the very end I run, and will see you at the finish line! love you always.

I just love this quote I read about Akintade.
“He said he loved America and would love to be a citizen one day.”

It seems the only people the US can get nowadays to fight its wars are foreigners.
